"Love keeps no record of wrongs..." (1 Corinthians 13:5)
Today's second reading is one of my favorite parts of the Bible. In fact, it was the second reading for our wedding.
Love is patient
Love is kind...
And what an honor that I got to read it for today's Mass!
It got me to reflect on my marriage.
If I speak in human and angelic tongues
But do not have love
I am a resounding gong
Or a clashing cymbal...
How a few years ago, after a huge fight with Edison, I realized that sulking and brewing in anger did not help the situation. So I started writing down the things I love most about him instead. I cut out each reason and put it in a “love jar.”
It bears all things, believes all things
Hopes all things, endures all things...
How such action became a habit. Every time we hit a rough patch in our marriage – whether it’s just a tiny misunderstanding or a giant argument – I would turn the heated negative energy into a warm and loving, more positive energy: writing things down that will go into the Love Jar for Edison.
Love never fails...
How after a while, I didn’t even have to wait for an argument. Every time I caught him doing sweet, nice things, I would put the deed in the love jar.
How I continue to pray, "Lord, help me to do my best everyday to mirror Your perfect love to be the best wife and mother that I can be."
[F]aith, hope, love remain
These three
But the greatest of these is love.
Oh, that I may never forget that if I am a work in progress, so is Edison...
Dear Lord, Thank You for Your gift of unconditional and forgiving love. May it continue to bind our marriage and family for always. Amen.
