“By humility and fear of the Lord are riches, and honor, and life.” (Proverbs 22:4)
Our season of growth and change continued through the Fall of 2016:
While we have found our forever home in Tracy, Alison had one last school year left until her 8th Grade Graduation; we decided to stay in the Bay (with my in-laws) until she graduated from Holy Angels School;
In the meantime, Edward began his freshman year at El Camino High School; and
I began my first year of teaching as a 6th Grade Teacher at Our Lady of Mercy School.
Alison was confirmed in January 2017. My sister, who happens to share the same birthday as Alison, and who has been an honorary ninang (godmother) to her, was her sponsor. We thank Ninang Belle for being a great example of love, humble service, and Catholic devotion.
Confirmation Name: PHILOMENA (Patron Saint of Infant, Babies, and Youth)
Sponsor: Arabelle Restauro
Little did we know that we were about to enter a season of “baptism of fire:”
And as if on cue for Good Friday, we have received the devastating news from the [head and neck] specialist that Edison's second biopsy shows a metastatic cancer that is positive for Epstein Barr Virus. The main cancer site is suspected to be at the nasopharynx, or from the back of the nose. He then needs further medical tests, MRI and PET scan, to help locate the main cancer site and to see if it has spread elsewhere.
“Faith, Hope, Love Remain,” Edison’s Brave Heart Journey, April 17, 2017
In May, Alison graduated and joined Edward in becoming a part of the distinct Holy Angels School Alumni. It was fast-becoming a difficult year, but we made sure she knew how proud and happy we were of all her accomplishments at Holy Angels School. During the graduation ceremony, Edison and I, along with other families whose children were the last ones in the family to graduate from the school, were given special recognition, “Alison Balingit (Edison & Audrey Balingit), 10 years [at Holy Angels School].”
And thus was the conclusion of “The Age of Holy Angels.” Well, not totally… because as the school spirit has instilled in us, “Once an Angel, Always an Angel.” :)
Dear Lord, Thank You for the gift of Holy Angels School. We continue to humble ourselves in awe of Your wonder and goodness. “Only Thy grace, Thy love on me bestow - these make me rich, all else will I forgo.” Amen.
